Newborn Benefit
Newborn Benefit
Benefit Description

This benefit may provide a $5,000 grant when an eligible member’s newborn child does not live beyond six months of age, and/or the eligible member dies within 31 days after giving birth. The maximum grant is $10,000 due to the death of both the newborn child and birthing mother.

The benefit also offers guaranteed insurability, issued at standard rates, on the life of the newborn, regardless of his/her health. The coverage is $10,000 (except for the state of New York, where the limit for guaranteed insurability is $5,000).

Eligibility requirements and limitations
  • The benefit period for the newborn child begins on that child’s live birth and continues through the first six (6) months after that birth, and in the case of the mother, the benefit period is 31 days from the date of the live birth of the child.
  • Death must occur on or after January 1, 1995.
  • The application for the grant must be submitted within six (6) months of the date of death.
  • The application must be accompanied by a Foresters claim form, and copies of the newborn’s birth certificate and the death certificate of the child and/or the mother.
  • To be eligible for guaranteed issue, the application for a certificate of life insurance for the newborn child must be submitted to Foresters and the initial premium paid within the 31-day period following the first six (6) months from the date of birth of that child.
